FUZZ 3D Logo Designs

FUZZ! is Belgium’s popular live lifestyle show, airing on commercial broadcaster Jim, made for a young audience. It is hosted by two presenters and its audience is involved heavily in the shows topics and discussions. Jim commissioned Cape Rock to develop the new package for its updated live show. The brief was simple: we want FUZZ! to be 100% pop. Make it an oasis of fun.

In developing the word mark we knew we wanted it to be sharp, simple but not to corporate. We also had the idea to make the name reflect the content in the bumpers and titles. A clean yet playful approach so we could start building illustrations with the letters to match the topics in the show: fashion, health, music and some sos themes relevant for teens.

The font Metric Bold was used as a starting point for the F and Z letter shapes. We needed to modify the angles and width to get it to work on the angle of the logo. The exclamation mark and U were drawn from scratch to fit in.

As we aimed for a dimensional mark with the letters overlapping and the multi color gradient side to mimic the eclectic style of the show as it is build up of many individual moments. The white front with extruded gradient side was also used on some graphic elements in the show like titles bars and lower thirds.

After the clients approval on the general approach and the design of the basic logo we started the development of the bumpers. The music bumper was a straightforward illustration music related shapes: from microphone to deck to player to speaker.

For the fashion bumper we create a mix of sneaker and hand bag textures with the exclamation mark being a lipstick. The S.O.S. bumper is a line up of life saving objects: from a Belgium highway emergency telephone, a life-buoy and police sirens to a bandage.

Once the letter objects were modeled, rigged and animated in 3D we composited the scenes. We kept the style quite illustrative rather than photo real and kept the colors a bit fuzzy and unreal to give it some warmth in line with the brief: oasis of fun.
