style="color: #4c4c4c; font-family: georgia, 'times new roman', times, serif;">In design, as in any domain, there are certain preconceptions about what designers think and do. This is a collection of quotes that I have either thought myself or that I have heard my designer friends say. Personally, I would say that the biggest preconceived idea is that a project will take however long it takes to sketch it up, whereas nine times out of ten, it is the concept and not the implementation that takes time. Hence ‘just come up with a few quick logos’ being a total oxymoron.

All the posters from the series can be purchased <a

Giving it a faux-texture relates perfectly to the ‘idea’ of the python, without relying on the literal characterisation of it’s form. It would have been all too easy to design a snake headed letterform, but that’s the cliche that’s been perfectly avoided.

<img

Letterpress printed over metallic inks, the love and care taken with these makes them some of the nicest I’ve ever seen.

I’m especially fond of Fenwick’s oversize 4″ x 2.5″ letterpressed calling cards, printed on Neenah Classic Crest “Tarragon” duplexed with “Epic Black” at a total weight of 230#. The large, blotchy pattern on the black side was printed first with metallic copper ink, then the scales were blind pressed on top to give the card a shining, slithering, snaky feel. ~ Jay Fletcher

<img
